June was one of our busiest months since the inception of ESD 5, capped off with mutual-aid response to the Reliable Tire Disposal fire in Burnet on June 30. Total calls for service for the month were 30, a 100% increase year-over-year from last year’s 15. Half of our calls were within the city of Sunrise Beach, with another eight in our north district, which includes the neighborhoods of Bridgepoint, Lakewood Forest, and Comanche Rancherias. Two incidents occurred on Lake LBJ, and we cannot stress enough the importance of wearing a properly sized, Coast Guard approved, Personal Flotation Device (PFD) / lifejacket during water activities on the lake this summer.

May saw an increase in needed rainfall for the area that helped curtail the wildfire threat in Llano County. The severe weather passing through the area did generate several calls for service, mostly high-water over low water crossings and several trees down in area roadways. The total number of calls for service for May was 16. We did respond to one large (~40 acre) but very slow-moving brush fire on Ranch Road 2900. The Department also provided mutual-aid assistance to the Kingsland VFD for a fully involved mobile home fire.
