MONTHLY ACTIVITY REPORT

In August, the Department responded to 16 incidents, including support for two local events. During the Inaugural Lake LBJ Wakepoint Open Wakeboarding & Surf Competition (Aug 15th-17th), the Department provided a fire/rescue boat with two medics to support the event. They responded to three medical calls for various injuries to competitors including one requiring hospital transport. The Department also supported the rescheduled Kingsland AquaBoom fireworks show, originally set for July 4th, with fire and safety standby. Additionally, SBFD assisted Llano VFD at a tragic double-fatality collision on State Highway 71.

In July, the Department experienced a demanding period due to flash flooding and heavy rainfall in Central Texas, particularly over the July 4th weekend and the following week. The Department responded to 25 incidents including:


  • Several water rescues on Lake LBJ and,
  • Mutual aid responses to flooding in Burnet, Williamson, and Travis counties.


The rainfall has provided a brief reprieve from grass fires this summer.


Further, in July, the Department responded to two motor vehicle collisions on State Highway 71, one resulting in a fatality. Always drive cautiously on highways, maintaining a safe speed and following distance for road and weather conditions.
